What is the Regional Aging Advisory Committee?

Being a designated Area Agency on Aging, by the North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS), we are guided by the Older Americans Act. It requires Area Agencies on Aging to have an advisory board with representatives from counties in their region. The Eastern Carolina Council Area Agency on Aging members are from Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Onslow, Pamlico, and Wayne counties.

Our Advisory Council has up to 27 members representing all nine counties. At least 50% of the members must be 60+ in age. Each member is appointed by the Board of Commissioners of his or her county.  RAAC members serve as advocates for individuals 60 years and over, caregivers, and persons with disabilities throughout the region. The RAAC members serve as a liaison with service populations, participating agencies, planning committees, public officials, and the general population. The goal is to enhance and promote public awareness of the services available to older adults, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities. The RAAC reviews and advises the Area Agency on Aging on their regional four-year plan and appoints a Senior Tar Heel Delegate and Alternate for each of the nine counties in the region.
